Unfortunatley LDraw which is the file system that MLCAD uses does not have a mechanism for 'snapping' pieces to each other so you can overlap parts or put one part inside another that you could not do with real LEGO bricks.
The way around this limitation is to use all of your views to see where parts are being placed and to use one grid system. In MLCAD on the toolbar you will fine a grid lick box button which allows you to change to 3 different settings. By defualt the bricks will move 1 LEGO stud at a time on your screen. Kowing this you can plan ahead and count the number of times you move across another brick.
It sounds complication but the visual queues in MLCAD will help you as will practicing using the software.

I'm not quite sure where to direct this question so I'm directing it here. I
have recently begun using MLCAD to digitally build models and I have found
that I cannot tell whether or not a piece will fit on top of another piece?
For example, I'll be placing two bricks on top of each other but I can't
tell if they are on straight. Is there a way around this? Thank you.
