The LDraw bricks are a bit less complex than the 3d application you use Brian. As the LDraw format only represents the "exterior" of the bricks from my limited understanding of the format.
The Parts group is the POC who can answer these technical questions. I've CCed them on this email. In addition www.lugnet.com/cad is the Parts Author forums where others that have developed parts chat about the techy aspects of LDraw parts.

Hi, I have never designed a Lego brick before, but I am an amateur 3D designer. I can design meshes for the TRLE (Tomb Raider Level Editor). I also have a program called Metaseq (Meta) that I am familiar with. I have a few beginner questions:
1. Can I design bricks on my Meta program?
2. If so, how should I export the 3D mesh files and what other programs ill I need?
3. All I really want to do is design the Star Wars Minifigs. Is there a blank that I can download for the head or the body, because all I want to do is modify the stickers?
4. Do I really need to edit the minifig head mesh if all I want to do is change its decal, and NOT its shape? Or is there a program made just fore adding pictures to already made bricks?
Thank you fore all of your time and help. I truly appreciate it.
