Thank you for your interest in OUR (you included!) software.
LDraw is fan based and the LDraw organization only maintains control of the LDraw file format and the LDraw parts library. We rely on third party developers to provide the editors, viewers, and all the other utilities that the community uses. In addition part developers are all volunteers as well.
As such your idea of a new editor is not ridiculous. There are other less known editors such as LEOCad that use the LDraw file format as well. It just happens to be that many users use MLCAD.
We are also open to the idea of new editors and wish you luck in developing a new editor. Many in the community post at
www.lugnet.com/cad and we encourage you to post there as well with your ideas of a new editor to get feedback on what others may be working on right now.

Dear Sir / Madame,
It might perhaps sound a little unusual, but is there a good professional way of creating Lego models under Windows? I don't really like MLCAD, because in my opinion I see lots of short commings. (For example if I compare it to 3D software as SolidWorks or Inventor...) The most important short comming is I think the rotation of the viewport.
So I was thinking that it would be better to program a new OpenGl accelerated editor...??
Please let me know something about these rediculous thoughts.
Yours faithfully,
Ralf Euser
